The RCA model AVT-110 and AVT-111 were designed for use on HF
in light, civilian aircraft just prior to WWII. They were drafted, along
with
the slightly later and more familiar AVT-112, for use in spotter aircraft
and in ferrying duty, such as that done by the Women's Army Service Pilots
(WASP), an especial interest of mine. The -110 and -111 were, IIRC,
the battery-operated and power-supply versions respectively.
They were fix-tuned with a single internal crystal, usually on
the 3105 KC standard civil "tower" frequency
or, less common- on the main Army Airways frequency of 4495 KC,
or 6210 KC guarded by both.
The AVT-112 brought the tuning controls and crystal socket
to the outside, as well as provided a tuning indicator.
There are versions of receiver earlier than AVR-20 or -15
that match these transmitters,
being also either powered or battery operated. Don't have all my
notes at the moment, but can dig them out if you want
further information.
