While I agree CFL's are some nutso conspiracy (wonder who owns the 
company?!), you'd have to pry LED flashlights from my cold, dead fingers ... 
actually being able to *SEE* 100' across the yard with a cylinder no bigger 
than a stubby hotdog is well worth the $30 I paid for it - and yes, it's 
military/police grade, not the toys usually encountered (tho of course, it's 
STILL made in china ...)  The bright white light is ideal for 'shock and 
awe'; it illumines reflective signs and tags perfectly, and other 
applications.

The problem, of course, is the many MIS-applications mentioned, tho I'm 
quite able to see the traffic signals, and better than the old 59-watt 
lamps.  Wonder if the locals are using some better grade, high-intensity 
version?  I do have better-than-average color perception, OTOH.
