[Milsurplus] ARC5 and Rack Mount/Plugs

For the receivers I have tried a Cisco IP Phone wall wart - 48V - with
excellent results. The coaxial connector fits nicely over the B+ pin
on the receiver back deck and I used a clip lead from the barrel of
the connector to the common. Then 12 or 24VDC for the fils and you're
all set. The Cisco power units are regulated and very smooth. The
receivers only draw between 7 an 10 milliamps at 48V but the audio is
very loud in ordinary WW II headsets. Not loud enough for use in a
B-24 but that's OK. I have saved one nicely converted blank panel for
its pot/switch/jack functions and plugged it into the front of the
receivers for the testing.
I admit I only tried this for a couple of hours one night and put the
receivers back on the shelf and I guess if I were going to set up a
station I'd have to come up with more sturdy connections but for quick
testing or for occasional use it's what I'll be doing - and it didn't
require any damage to the power connectors and didn't cause any harm
to the parts in the units... Next I want to drag out a BC-348 and see
what happens at 48V.
One more thing. I checked the 48V current with no fils first to see
whether there were any direct shorts or a curent above 10 or 20 mills.
None so far - just lucky I guess. If you are going to use the
dynamotors I'd first test with an external power supply - preferably
starting at low voltages and with either current limiting in the PS or
via an external resistor to test for shorts.
