[Milsurplus] TRC-10

At club meeting last night for "show and tell", club member brought an
unusual piece of gear to show off.  Was an RT-46/TRC-10 set.  The case was
badly banged up and had a homebrew power supply in bottom of it.  Didn't get
a real close look at it but radio part looked pretty fair.

What is this? Where was it used?  Tried a "google" on it and only got where
someone was looking for one several years ago and the rest came back as TRC
rice grinding machines and data on RT-46 highway.  

Any info be appreciated or directions to get same.  Looked like a 2-12Mc
unit with tunable receiver and a single channel crystal controlled trans, AM
and CW?
