[Milsurplus] German Vehicle "Frame Antenna", again

A year or so back we discussed some US Army
publication that talked about NVIS and German
vehicular "loop antennas". I described this as
fiction, BS by an overenthusiastic imagination.

I the other day looked at a photo of a German
SdKfz 251/6 Command Vehicle, half tracked.
The photo shows 3 antennas - 2 whips, one
short standard, one maybe 10 ft tall, and a
frame antenna. The frame antenna of course
is the horizontal loop format - but is it a loop,
a magnetic loop antenna? Well - it has 2 cross
members, across it horizontally and longitudinally.
The cross members are welded right to the frame
proper - not insulated. It's obvious that the main
frame itself is insulated at the 4 stanchions that
support it off the body of the vehicle. Loop
antenna? No way.
The article states the transmitter is the WS100,
200 - 1200 kHz, and the receiver, the Torn E.b.
200 - 6970 kHz. Additionally there seems to be
a walkie talkie (backie packie) for the 100 MHz
range included. Maybe this was for dismount
use, or for communicating with infantry? I do not
know what the long whip, up front, was for; it's
right above the driver's compartment and i cannot
see what's in there. -Hue Miller
