Yes, absolutely!

The availability of vast quantities of high quality equipment and  
parts at almost give away prices profoundly affected the course of Ham  
radio following WW2 and continues to this day.   And, most of the  
pieces of surplus equipment  put into useful operation, Ham and  
otherwise, over the past 60 years were likely modified and/or used in  
some way other than originally intended.  How can this not be a valid  
area for study, discussion and documentation.   It happened and it's  
happening,

Not a matter of either/or here.  The preservation of original (mint,  
stock, etc.) equipment and systems and study of their original use and  
history is an equally valid (but by no means a morally superior)  
pursuit.  I, for one am equally interested in both sides.
