I believe that the RAM was delivered in 1936, and it may be
one of the earliest superheterodyne receivers used in US military
and naval aviation.  I wonder where the largest surviving part of
one could be found today.

The Army Air Corps's BC-224-A appeared just a year later.  Although
mechanically quite different from all following BC-224/348 models,
electrically it is basically the same.  It has always amazed me that
such an outstanding and long-lived design was developed by 1937.

While we are talking about rarities, has any list member come across
information about the BC-349 transmitter that was to be paired up with
the BC-348 in the SCR-260?
