Defined "reasonably realistic", and it might help to narrow the
discussion down a bit. :-) The alternatives on the Bendix side are
pretty well known - the TA-2* series being the most often mentioned -
but certainly there were others available to the installers, including
the venerable TA-12. I wouldn't be surprised to see combinations of
other Navy aircraft transmitters from time to time, either, but I don't
have any documentation for it.

According to documentation I've seen over the years, most of the larger
Navy patrol aircraft had two HF receivers, Hue. I'm not sure if they
were interested in redundancy in case of failure, or actually dedicated
one position to a particular mission need, but it seems to have been a
common configuration.
