They are very useful for what they were intended for. That is reading the signal strength of various transmitters. I have one of the IM-52 units which cover 375 MHz to 1000 MHz. For someone working with 47 CFR Part 15 devices they can be used to verify that the output does not exceed the limits set by the FCC.

As such, I would look for someone who needs to use the receiver for what it was originally designed rather than tearing it up for parts. You could then use the money received to buy all sorts of things.

I am trying to figure out what to do with this unit. Has anyone had the opportunity to use, modify or part out a URM-50? This is the Military IM-84/URM-50 Field Strength Meter made by National Company, Inc. for the US Navy as part of the AN/URM-50 Radio Frequency Monitor. This is basically a tube receiver tunable from 30kcs to 400mc. It uses a very interesting rotating turret assembly for band switching. It covers a very wide swath of frequencies. It has a very husky power supply along with copious amounts of taxpayer funded hardware, brackets, chassis parts, etc.

There is no bandspread and it has had the anti-fungus treatment.
