There's a recent book by Arch Dody called "Diary of a Pilot."  Arch
is W7ACD and author of several antenna articles in QST.

During WW2 he flew the C46 and the C87 over the hump.  Extra personable
man.  Book has a little on BCB gain antennas to get news
from home.  His reference then was The Handbook.  But he didn't
get licensed until his family was raised and gone.

Further, he was a career machine tool rep to Ford im Detroit.  Never
tired about deriding their B24/C87 products.  F'rinstance you could
spend ten minutes trimming one then let go of controls, & it be
yawing somewhere new ten sec.s later.  Consolidated products
flew like planes.
