Actually, it kind of makes sense for at least post-war guard and
reserve units to be equipped (or retro-fitted) for ILS approaches.
The RC-103 was available and would have given the P-51 greater
capabilities as far as getting back on the ground safely was
concerned.  Pilots usually liked that outcome since it involved a lot
less paperwork.

There were three receivers used with the AN/ARN-5 system, with the
R-445/ARN-5D being the last.  This one had six channels to match the
BC-733's six channels (Previous versions had one or three channels -
R-57 & R-89 resectively.) so was an ideal mate.
