[Milsurplus] RT-70A and AM-65 question

Greetings groups,
  I have just purchased the subject gear.It came with a short power 
cord,a dog bone and an HS-33 handset and a maintenance manual for the 
RT-70.I happened to have a manual for AN/GRC-3 thru 8 which has some 
info on the AM-65.
  It seems I need a control box to select "set 2" the RT-70.I would like 
to operate as a stand alone set.As it is I have the internal switch set 
to "Field" but I hear nothing from the RT.The AM-65 seems to be working 
as I get sidetone.
 I'll be checking all the tubes next.
  Do I need to jumper some pins on the REC-TR CONT. jack to light this 
one up?
