Mike and all,

Update to my previous post:

I ran out to the shack and fired up the ATD (after I clipped out the
cap/coax/shorting audio jack from the 814 grid pin and the extra bypass cap
from the plate choke) and now the grid tuning is normal, I get normal grid
current. I really suspected before that something was swamping out the grid
drive...
I still was able to get only about 12 W and 2/3 of normal plate current from
both 3-9 MHz tuners, one is tuned to 3570 (the Old Military Radio Net CW
frequency) and the other to 3885.
Of course, there is a big mismatch between my ME-165 dummy load/power meter.

Then I proceeded to hook up a 100pF cap in series with the output and the 50
ohm load, now the PA tuning is better and I'm getting almost 30W out.

The next thing is to use my 1:4 unun between the ATD output and the 50 ohm
load. I won't get to it probably until the weekend.
Once it was putting out maximum power, I switched to AM using the
"prescribed" RS-38 mike. I listened to it on a Navy RBO and the signal
sounds good and crisp, with slight upwards modulation!
Now we're getting somewhere...
The 1500 to 3000 KHz TU is not doing anything, no grid current. It may be
contacts, so I'll check it out over the weekend.

The ARB receiver is working great, and I have the canvas covers for it, the
ATD and the dynamotor. Should be a nice display and operating station.
