You are referring to the RT-34/APS-13, which has two 6J6 oscillator tubes as its transmitter.  The RT-7/APN-1 has two 955 acorn tubes instead.  The RT-34/APS-13 transmitter is pulsed, and does not use a wobulator.

I don't think there were many AN/APN-1 units on the surplus market until the late 1950s...they were used for many years post-WWII by the military, and any surplus units were popular with civil aviation.  The AN/APS-13, on the other hand, was withdrawn from service even before the end of WWII (except for some odd UK uses, and for use on the nuclear weapons dropped on Japan).  The RT-34 was surplus in large quantities almost immediately.
