Mike,

The ATB transmitter was manufactured for Navy aircraft with the companion
receiver, the ARB. The ATB is a low power transmitter, if I recall it’s
rated for 20 W output.

Mike Hanz is on this list and he has an excellent and informative website
which shows among other equipment, the ATB. There is also other information
on it regarding other airborne equipment.

Go to and open Flight Deck ( HYPERLINK
"http://aafradio.org/flightdeck/flightdeck.htm"http://aafradio.org/flightdec
k/flightdeck.htm ) and browse around, or go directly to ( HYPERLINK
"http://aafradio.org/flightdeck/b29.htm"http://aafradio.org/flightdeck/b29.h
tm ) and you’ll see a link from the ATB to a photo. There is also some
documentation at

The Docs link, HYPERLINK
"http://aafradio.org/docs/atb-arb.html"http://aafradio.org/docs/atb-arb.html
.

For some reason ATB’s are very rare and I don’t know how many complete units
are around besides Mike’s.

I saw a list of what radios go with what aircraft in the Navy during WW2 but
I have to think where I saw it. I may have saved a link to it on my computer
at work.

Subject: [Milsurplus] CRV 47192 Tuning Unit

Good Afternoon,

I was going through my surplus on a rainy Sunday afternoon and found a
CRV-47192 tuning unit. I tunes in the range 3.0-9.05 Mc/s and was used in a
CRV-52232 ATB transmitter. It comes in a nice case, model CRV-10085 and was
manufactured my RCA Manufacturing, contract date Feb.23, 1942.

Could anyone enlighen me on the ATB transmitter and tell me what type of
aircraft if was installed in? Which receiver was used with the ATB?

I purchased this in G&G radio, in downtown Manhattan, before they closed
shop. I liked the case and was going to build a transmitter with the tuner
but I was so impressed by the workmanship that I wisely decided not to
modify it.
