Ray, the military did use fiberglass antenna
poles. I got one from the Marines in 1962.
It had a flat base plate, about 18 inches high,
and 6 0r 8 screw-in units each about 1 1/2 inch
diameter, and about 4 feet long. Maybe for a
vehicle. The oldest weird antenna support I
ever saw was part of a kit for a HF Rhombic.
That pole was multi-section, 8 inches diameter,
and made of six strips of plywood glued together.
WWII or earlier. All in all our favorite antenna
support was the Blaw-Knox three-sided tower or
mast. They were 73 and 105 feet usually. Trivia.
I think CQ or QST had something on camo poles a
while back.
