Evidently they bought both kinds by the truckload, Ray.    There are 
plenty of surplus sellers offering them cheaper than the hamfest 
peddlers, such as:

The original use was to support camo netting, the guy from Maryland  
darn near sold out at the Peoria Hamfest last year but he told me he had 
a warehouse full back in MD.   Why they used both aluminum and 
fiberglass is a mystery to me, but a fiberglass section makes a nice 
base insulator for an aluminum vertical.
