I found the ad in the Dec. 1954 issue of QST, but all it said was that 
it was originally designed for the Coast Guard, no mention of who the

It's not bad. It's a rim drive, but nice and smooth, and it takes 20 
turns of the tuning knob to go from one end of the calibrated dial to 
the other.   Forgot to mention, the receiver also has a crystal filter 
(with phasing).     For sixty bucks, not a bad deal in 1953 when 
receivers like the HQ-129X and SX-76 were selling for well over $200.  
But of course most hams would rather have had coverage up to 10 meters 
than the LW band.

I've also never found a schematic, but it's a pretty simple design to 
figure out.
