The Ploesti raid ran into problems because of error by a pilot who was inattentive
at the pre-flight briefings and turned inland at the wrong river mouth, ignoring
the specific instructions to look for the monastery on a hilltop, the marker of
the correct waypoint. This alerted the air defenses prematurely.
