You might also check that there are not two set screws, one on top of
the other. Uncommon, but possible. There also might be Glyptal locking
the holder in place.

I'd avoid trying oil unless you are sure you can remove it completely,
as oil sometimes damages plastic in the long term.

Heating it will likely make matters worse because Bakelite expands more
than aluminum or steel. You might try freezing it though.
