[Milsurplus] Aleutian campaign factoids

I'm betting they had proper long range HF sets.  You're not going to 
camp out, long term, in Siberia or Alaska with a hand-crank generator.  
You're going to arrange proper shelter, i.e. heated buildings and AC 
generators.  Does anyone have solid info on military weather outposts?  
There were guys deployed to the Gobi Desert for the same purpose.
