I saw that and will probably take advantage of that detail.
The W. German Army used the receive portion of the GRC-9 in a separate
case for a battery powered DF (I think) receiver. I had one for a
while that I used with a "portable" (It had handles on it.)
transmitter/power supply. I kept the receiver quite a while after I
allowed my back a bit of relief by giving up that pursuit.
Somewhere in my creaky swiss-cheese memory, I thought there was a
separate case for the R-174 alone for some application or another, but
I don't remember enough to be able to glue it down with any certainty.
I may be confusing it with the W. German receiver.
It would be pretty cool to find/create a transmitter to go with it.
It would be even more so cool to make one from Type K-derived
equipment. Let's see ... a T-15 covers 300 KCs which seems a good VFO
to use in a heterodyne rig ... *he says, looking for somewhere sturdy
to hide :-) *
