Breck, there's not much conversion that was required for 40m.
I last week found a leaflet from a place in California advertising
BC-474s for $39.95 The page says for 40 just realigning the
receiver to cover 80 and 40 and the transmitter already doubles
to 40. ( I don't think the rec. bandspread would be too wonderful
on 40. ) When i last used one circa 20 years ago, i was concerned
about the plate mA meter bouncing on keying and did something
non-radically-destructive to limit the meter to reading on tune-up
only, but i don't recall now how i solved that.
I was recently thinking about dumping my 3 or so BC-474 but on
a trip north recently i unearthed my cute chocolate-drop of a 474
that apparently was surplused new or near new and my resolve
totally broke down. Also they only weigh 23 lbs. ( "Only" ).
I noticed in the list of MWOs there is no MWO listed for the SCR-288.
It's also interesting that some BC-474 were surplused in such good
condition altho come to think of it, i don't recall seeing any ads for
NIB type surplus ones.
Who will be the first to jump the Atlantic ( or Pacific, hi ) with a BC-474 ?
Dave, are you listening? ( hi hi )
