And NOW, many of those companies who did issue
their own credit cards have found that it is cheaper for
them to pay the transaction charges of the "majors "
than to pay the payrolls, health insurance, worker
comp, etc. to support their own consumer credit.
I have made close to 1,000 eBay purchase of ham
gear, motorcycle stuff (including a 2007 Harley) and
also have had less than five sour deals. A couple
of those were due to my failure to read the auction
description correctly.

Not that I care one way or the other but it's actually a partial regression to an earlier way, not something new. When "credit cards" first became common, small outfits who couldn't afford to issue their own credit cards could, for a heft fee, set up to take the general purpose ones. Large ones, like oil companies, Sears, etc., issued their own cards. If you wanted to use a credit card you used theirs. Period. If you didn't, you paid cash (or check, etc.).

You had better watch out. If Ebay can do why not others. Other suppliers of "services" might start telling you to pay via their own off shoot company. You'll not be able to pay with cash, not with cheque, not with postal orders, not with 3rd party credit cards. You will be forced to use their card, for which they will charge you a fee.
