I had a RT-68 with p.s.,aux Rx ,mount, ant. etc. I used to drag out and
set up in the back of my pickup and drive up to Castle Rock, above
Silicon Valley, and try to check in to the Armyradios net.I did this
exercise numerous times and never made contact with anyone.Everything
was working, even had a watt meter and a separate monitor rx so I know I
was getting out.Heard plenty of CA Highway Patrol and Taxi service and
a few others but no hams.Sold it all for a song at Foothill flea market
and have not regretted it for one minute...My back is doing much better
now....These radios were built like tanks, for tanks. No doubt they were
state of the art.Even had cloth schematics stuffed in a tube for
emergency repair, although I'd hate to be the techie in the field trying
to fix any part of this set. These are depot repair unless its a
vibrator or tube failure.

Relatively little information still exists about the origins of these
remarkable radio sets. However, some research I did years ago indicated
these radios were designed by Crosley, incorporating a number of
circuit techniques that came out of research conducted at Bell
Laboratories. I think I may still have one or two technical papers
published on the subject back in the early 1950s. These fabulous and
historic sets were truly state of the art, and have been unfortunately
neglected by the "collecting" community...
