Hello Mike-
  The easiest modification IMO is to replace the stock 500 KC mech filter with the opposite sideband one. I believe the stock filter is the F-500-Z5 ( LSB, as the set inverts sidebands). Get the F-500-Z4 ( can buy from Fair Radio or rob out of 618-T series) and that is all there is to it.
    I did a PRC-47 once with selectable sideband usind a small crystal can relay. I know there is another method described in Electric Radio of doing all this electronically in synthesizer if I recall correctly.
