John I've another acquaintance that flew "MacArthur's Coronado" to Missouri
on 9/2/45. Mac's giant ego just wudn't allow Nimitz to have a Coronado
when he didn't. So empty MacArthur Coronado was just anchored nearby.

Same man, then Capt. Black, decicated ur Coronado when it arrived
Pensacola abt. 1992. Black ended career as Tandy's svc. mgr. & I believe
is still
kicking in Gainseville, GA

On SBDs & ZBs. Friday I posted one Lt. Collins had a ZB on Friday. Man
was island-based in Sulu(?) sea '42-'43. Inter-island shipping patrol

I was personally wondering if ZB mix-up occurred. I began by asking
if he used ZB. He quipped "Oh yes, YG/ZB - never left home without it."
And on mix-ups, ie wrong code for day, he'd never heard of it but
noted you HAD to know morse.

Then comes question that given a WE233 was crannied into a SBD w. ZB,
the RU had to stay. Maybe 233 the tailcone w other ASB stuff?

CAF has nice flying SBD @ Peachtree City, GA. It blew it's Wright
R1800 18 mo.s back 'cause someone failed to tighten a magneto lug - if
only pilot wudda tried running ONLY R or L magneto. Unlikely.

Pilot sure redeemed himself. SBD made a good dead stick in FL where
it'd been exhibited. As I understand it, plane now has a PW R1830
(read dc3) that's relatively common. Original Wright 1800s, read B17,
etc., a supposedly vanishing species.

Now they'll take a paying passenger. I still have an unredeemed
pattern-only chit. Quid pro quo for the ASB display I gave 'em.

I can almost hear that mighty engine roar.
