What would they have used, IF they needed? Probably in
convoy or fleet operations, the small ships did NOT need
this. But if they did, such as a separated ship, would 
they have a light gun onboard. Somewhere i have a photo
of a guy squatting before the open hatch on a seaplane,
using a light gun to the single ship below. -Hue
