I probably should have tried to get some dates for the items i asked about.
After leaving Gambier Bay, he only flew from land fields in the Philippines.
I unfortunately did not get a date for his comments on HF & VHF.
I was asking him about the HF distance range, and he added the comment that
"they hardly used the HF equipment" ( ARB + ATC ), except for in-air practice
communications or in the war zone, as reserve for contact reports.
Actually, the receiver he mentioned was the "ARA", but it seems to me that
was wrong?
One of the items he told me: a pilot needed to get some hours, something like
that, a routine non-combat non-patrol flight. A cook went along just for the
experience of flying in a plane, his first, probably. Unfortunately, a wing fell
off the TBM in flight; end of both their stories. -Hue
