Hi Clete & Robert,
Thanks for the info on this. Another group member has told me that back in
the '40s "QST" ran two articles on a choke-coupled buffer amplifier that
allowed an LM wavemeter or BC-221 to be used as a VFO. I've located my
copies of the articles (Aug '46 and March '47) and looks like a
straightforward job, so I will try that route as there seems to be plenty of
gain in the design and only a tuned output stage. Would be nice to find one
of those boxes, Robert, but then I've plenty of chirp already, using the
BC-610 master oscillator in the TU units!
