Ben,
I hope that this gets through. Everything I posted yesterday bounced.
The TCS-13, -14 and one order of TCS-12 were supplied for use in small craft
and vehicles and only shipped with one of the dynamotor supplies. So that's
all that the manuals cover. I have manuals on 10 of the 15 number models,
missing -1, 2, 3, 5, & -8. The early models were only supplied with the 20218
115VAC supply but it contains an S301 otherwise the same as S501 in the 20242.
The TCS and TCS-4 manuals show the switch connected to terminals 1 and 2 on the
transmitter HV transformer. The text says that S301 (501) selects between
400 and 450 VDC for the transmitter but nowhere in the installation or operation
sections does it say when or why you might select either. The TCS-6 manual
still shows the switch wired to 1 and 2 but it is not mentioned in the text.
The TCS-7,9,10,11,12 manual shows the switches connected only to terminal 1
(that's the schematic that you have). So sometime during production it was
decided to eliminate the 450 VDC choice but possibly so that they wouldn't have to
change the nomenclature of the supplies they left the switch in place.
In any case, it does not appear that you would hurt anything if you moved the
450 end of the switch to terminal 2. On my TCS-14 I normally run the
PP-380/U. Years back I bridged the transmitter filter capacitors with additional
capacitors that boosted the high B+ to about 450 and the transmitter still seems
to have adequate drive to load to 200 ma.
