Perhaps if & when i get around to this, that would
be the way to go. Plus  flushing with lighter fluid might
result in a cleaner & drier bathtub also.  
Glad i learned these tips before i actually get around
to repairing something! I agree it's much better to 
retain the original part, or at least its housing.
