The late W6NRM published an article in CQ - and I can't lay my hand on
it right at the moment, but was in the mid 1950s - where he converted the
915 KHz down to 85, went through the transformers from the Command Set,
and then converted back to 915 and sent it through the regular detector
and audio. He had an external AC power supply, so mounted this stuff in
the dynamotor space.

Based on his ideas I did something similar, and brought the conversion
oscillator frequency control out to the front panel so it allowed
passband tuning. And I used a bandpass filter I had found in some
surplus store rather than the 85 KHz IF transformers for selectivity.
