Fella put a 1000kc xtal in the 453's 12SK7 RF AMP socket (the
hole).  He  unwired two lugs that went to xtal & wired same so
the 12K8's triode section.  That in turn was re-wired as a xtal osc.

915kc came in to 12K8's pentode mixer section which had
been altered to bypass normal 190-550 LC ckt. Result was
1000-915 = 85kc

I didn't do that adaptation but had it related ages ago &
was taken on it's direct and reversible nature
