I picked up a pair of 100 Ah gel cells last year free at a place that cycles them out of comm equipment on a regular schedule whether they need it or not. They pay by the pound to get rid of them. I recycle them when they conk out. 

These 2 in parallel run the solid-state gear and LED task lighting in my shack 24/7 and I occasionally use them to run my BC-312 when I get the "authenticity itch". Still figuring out a "starter cap" lash-up so I can use a conventional linear PSU w/o it locking down.
