I routinly use 50-70 year old equipment on the old Military Radio Net, Local AM nets, and on occasion on AM on various bands. It is reliable, and communicates as well as modern rice boxes in the mode used. I use ARC 5, BC 191, TCS, AVT 112, ART 13, BC 654, BC 1306, GRC 9, T 368 with associated recievers to name a few. Most check ins on the Old Military Radio Net are located up East, but some are scattered all over the midwest and even farther. Yes the net is a 5AM Eastern time. and even at the low of the sunsspot cycle, I am usually heard by all stations on the net.
Ther is no reason to not use the period euipment for WWII, Korean, Vietnam, etc, displays, though I have no problem supplimenting it with modern equipment as long as the period equipment is in use.
BTW, I do not even own a rice box. All equipment is either military, commerical, or USA built Boat Anchors.
