Mike: What bashing?
I happen to agree that if the goal of the display is historical accuracy,
then be accurate about it. If your goal is to educate, you have to provide
a frame of reference for the modern folks--otherwise they say, "How nice"
and walk away not understanding anything. What's the goal? To preserve the
past, or to educate folks about the past? The two goals may require
different approaches.
There's nothing that says that there couldn't be a comparison chart or
display nearby showing folks how much gear it took to do job X using 1940s
tech, and the same job X using today's tech.
At no time, however, is there a need in my opinion to provide a working,
modern ham station in the middle of Radio Central on a battleship. There's
no preservation of the past going on, and it's not clear what education is
taking place. What's the point?
My opinions only.

I don't understand this Japan bashing. They were our enemies during WW2
but they have turned out to be one of your staunchest allies in the last 30
years. We criticize the use of their equipment in some of our museum
displays but we don't hesitate selling milsurplus radios to Japanese
collectors.
