[Milsurplus] Belton Swapfest

All: Perhaps part of it is to be more aware of who's who at the hamfest, and
if someone looks lost, help them out. Another part (seems better to me) is
to make our presence in our communities more well-known, so that that widow
knows somewhere to turn to BEFORE the hamfest. Finally, as has been said a
lot of times before, have a real PLAN for disposal of our gear (and some
contacts typed up to get hold of who will assist).

For what it's worth.

There is a real ethical problem for me here.
  (A) I've always followed the policy of not interfering with a transaction
in progress. Suppose a buyer and seller are negotiating a deal, I will not
jump in and say "I'll pay $X more than that" , because I believe it's bad
form at the very least. I've had it done to me a number of times by dealers
in the northeast (one chronic offender is named Andy) and it REALLY pi$$es
me off.

  (B) The other thing is I don't like to see a family member get ripped
off.

There is no good answer, AFAIK, except to help to make the professional
scavengers pay a fair price for things if you are in a position to advise
the seller of an estate.

  Best,
  -John

Well... OK, but how many of us are ready to intervene verbally or
otherwise when we see that kind of thing going down?
