Joe, the Instrument Landing System "Localizer"
which provided Left and Right information to the
pilot, were assigned to one of the VHF frequencies
shown on the little box. Even today the charts
show the VHF frequency of each ILS localizer.
The "Glide Path" for Up and Down information uses
frequencies in the UHF band, (about 400 MHz), and
they are paired with the localizer frequencies so
that when the pilot selects the Localizer frequency
from the chart, both the localizer receiver, (which
you used), and the Glidepath receiver were set
their respective frequencies. Those two receivers
had extremely high "Q" RF tuned circuits. The
Glidepath used minature tuneable cavities. TRIVIA
