Subject: [Milsurplus] Interesting item, BC 732 Contol box
This is the control box for the Crystal controlled BC 733 Glide Slope
Receiver built by Crosley during WWII. I used one of these receivers to
pick up our first US Satellite some 30 or so years ago. It was on a
frequency just above 108 Mhz, which this receiver covered. I had a Crystal
ground by Tedford Crystals in Cincinnati Ohio. I made a Helical antenna,
mounted it on a heavy duty camera tripod. I hauled up the receiver, home
brew power supply, antenna, tripod, and Webcor Wire Recorder,to the roof of
our house, (relative flat) and proceeded to record the satellite. Won Top
Award at the Northern Kentucky, Greater Cincinnati high School Physics fair
for my efforts that year.
I still have the receiver, crystal and power supply.
