Hello Hue,
That was most likely my post. My MI-8751, S.N. 160 - ORDER NO.
3022-NY-41, also has the jack modifications you describe. There is a tag
inside the cabinet identifying it as SCR-288, but as you mention, no
BC-474 designation. I have no painted-on markings at all.
I suspect there was originally only one phone jack, and some sort of
two-conductor jack for the mic. I have a lead on what's purported to be
the original RCA manual for these radios, before the Signal Corps.
Any solid information on the origins of these radios beyond what's in
the green Signal Corps history books would be most welcome.
