Then, there was the RU-2A, made by A.R.C. in 1937.  It covered 200 to 400 KC only.  I have the manual for this system.

It was probably one of the most expensive and complex beacon band installations of that day, since the RU-2A still required the receiver control box, junction box, and dynamotor of the full RU-2 system, even though the frequency coverage was very limited.  Doubtless it must have seemed a good idea to someone at the time.

I like the "late" RU-16/GF-11 sets.  Even though they bear 1941 contract dates, they seem to possess most of the characteristics expected of a mid-1930s aircraft radio installation (even if few of that specific version were ever installed in aircraft).

Sometime in the mid-1930s, QST printed an article about an arctic or antarctic aircraft expedition, with pictures of the aircraft's radio gear.  I seem to recall that the gear that was shown, though not RU/GF sets, at least looked similar to them.
