Hi,
When I have trees or other supports available, and I am trying to work
stations past 15 miles away, I use a 5/8 wave length of wire, end fed.
That gets the output happy by bringing the impedance down from the very
high impedance you get from a half wave.
If no supports available, a vertical works ok. I usually use my 24-foot
TBX vertical. For local work with other vertically antennaed stations this
is optimal.
My TCS tunes my 10-foot mobile whip on 75 meters without the external
antenna loading coil, but it won't tune 80.
