Was looking at Time-Life book "Italy at War" other day.
Page 85, has photo of radio gunner in Italian "Cant Z.1007
Kingfisher" bomber, all-wood construction. Gunner has ports
on both sides of him for 12.7 mm MGs ( approx. 50 cal. ) so
he can cover both sides, has to right side of him (apparently)
an AR-18 receiver and above, a transmitter i cannot identify
but "may" be one of matching types, maybe RF-350. The
bungee-cord suspension system is clearly apparent. Bungee
cords for suspending the radios off the mounting surfaces
used a rack type sytem made out of tubing; the radio was
suspended in it from "knobs" or large buttons on the side
of the radio, where the bungee cord looped. This system
was used in the late 1920s in the USA sometimes, but by
WW2 only Japan and Italy, as far as i know, were using it.
