As for some - probably most! - OTs having no interest in the gear beyond 
vaguely
remembering it - recall that most of these equipment users didn't choose 
their
job because they liked radio gear or hamming, any more than they liked to 
dress in
OD color. It was just a tool.  Some hams did get into the radio op jobs - 
their accounts,
naturallly to us, are very interesting to read, and they still are 
interested in the technical
