While on the subject of using-unit marked equipment: I'd say MUCH
of US ground equipment WW2 was marked, at least the bags, not so
much the equipment, except for BC-654, many of those are marked.
I can understand that: when you go to move forces, you want to have
stuff packed up with the trucks of people it belongs to. 

The 71st TCS may be the first aircraft radio i have seen marked with
unit. I note that much, maybe most, Japanese WW2 radio equipment
is painted with a number, for example, "No. 22" on an aircraft radio. I
do not understand the reason for that. I have NEVER seen any painted
number designation on any WW2 German equipment; i would "guess"
that any act like that would be regarded as an authorized and abusive
of the equipment  - no one would dare. -Hue Miller
