Sometimes things come into being because of
Salesmanship.  Perhaps we shouldn't try to apply
too much common sense to some of the electronic
things we see designed or purchased.  Could be
that some Customer Service Representative had
the gift of Persuasion, or whatever, and talked up
SSB over AM.  Or, maybe SSB was all that was
on the shelf at the time.   Trivia.
