Hi Jim,
Well, weight is a consideration for me in only one aspect, it costs too much
to ship. The estimate is in excess of $300 and I don't think I want to
invest that much along with the unit price. I love these old heavy
boatanchors and have several of them to prove it. If it were close enough
for me to go pick it up I'd most likely go for it.
I have three BC-610's now in my collection, Jim, but the "E" model is still
my favorite!
Rick
First off, I don't want to start a "flame war" with anyone, but I just
don't understand this attitude about the RCA SSB-1 Boatanchor.
A big, heavy, vacuum state transceiver in what looks to be pretty good
condition, and it's not worth picking up?
Seems to me this is the attitude that was prevalent in the late 1970s,
early 1980s when everyone was going rice box. Remember that great
looking R-390 for $45.00 and a R-388 for $25.00 that you passed up at
Hamfests back then? Not to mention radios from Hallicrafters, Gonsets,
SBE and others that most likely went to the dump during that era.
Using my trusty CPI index, the "buy it now" price of $125.00 is worth
just over $50.00 in 1980 dollars. Seems to me to be a bargain then and
a bargain now. Breck said that the rig can be VFOed for $20.00 or you
can go first class with a PLL for $90.00, the perfect solution.
Weight is not an issue for you Rick. How many BC-610s are in the
collection now?
Confused in Arkansas,
Jim
