[Milsurplus] What is Cylinder in Nems-Clarke Receiver

After a second look I definitely agree that it is a blower. In fact, it
states next to the assembly that it is B201. I used to have a lot of those
Nems Clarke receivers about 20 or more years ago, but do not recall a blower
in any of them, and, that is why the automatic tuning came to mind. Of
course seeing the rest of the pictures eliminated that guess. -

Hi Glenn:
Nems Clarke (relation?) 1302A
<http://cgi.ebay.com/NEMS-CLARKE-1302A-AM-FM-CW-Surveillance-Receiver_W0QQit

I thought this was used more for telemetry than for "Surveillance".
Any ideas on what RCA patents it uses?
Have Fun,
