I along with many others have been using wide band military radios at hamfest and other events for years on 51.0 We make no attempt to modify their bandwidth to comply with modern 5 KHz radios, cranking down the modulation may be a easy thing but if you modify the IF and discriminator the radio wont work with other mil sets and in the last ten years or so the only operations I have had with these radios has been at such events. Most operation on six in our area is SSB or on the occasional band opening for FM so you won’t get a lot by modifying your 68 and operating it at home, drag it to Dayton or Gilbert or any other meet where their will be a net and it will get lots of use.
